1. Coleus

Coleus is a genus of annual or perennial herbs or shrubs, sometimes succulent, sometimes with a fleshy or tuberous rootstock, found in the Afro-Eurasia tropics and subtropics. The relationship among the genera Coleus, Solenostemon and Plectranthus has been confused.

These hardy plants come in a variety of colors and sizes, including green, purple, orange, red, and yellow, and can have striking patterns.

2. Hosta

These shade-loving perennials come in a wide range of leaf shapes, sizes, and colors, and are easy to grow.

Hosta is a genus of plants commonly known as hostas, plantain lilies and occasionally by the Japanese name gibōshi. Hostas are widely cultivated as shade-tolerant foliage plants. The genus is currently placed in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Agavoideae, and is native to northeast Asia.

3. Caladium

These perennials grow from tubers and can have foliage in colors like green, white, pink, rose, red, and chartreuse. They can grow in part shade to shade, though some varieties can tolerate full sun.

Caladium is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae. They are often known by the common name elephant ear, heart of Jesus, and angel wings. There are over 1000 named cultivars of Caladium bicolor from the original South American plant.

4. Rex Begonia

These plants have striking foliage that can be multi-colored, with hues of green, red, and silver, and sometimes have a metallic sheen. They also produce small clusters of begonia flowers, but are primarily grown for their leaves.

Begonia rex, the king begonia, is a species of flowering plant in the family Begoniaceae. It is found from Arunachal Pradesh to southeast China, and has been introduced to Bangladesh, Cuba, and Hispaniola. It is a parent to over 500 cultivars in the Begonia Rex Cultorum Group of houseplants.

5. Canna

These rhizomatous perennials have tropical-like foliage and large flowers that can be red, orange, or yellow.

Canna or canna lily is the only genus of flowering plants in the family Cannaceae, consisting of 10 species. All of the genus's species are native to the American tropics and naturalized in Europe, India and Africa in the 1860s.

6. Aglaonema

Aglaonema is a genus of flowering plants in the arum family, Araceae. They are native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and New Guinea. They are known commonly as Chinese evergreens.

These plants have large, velvety leaves and can be grown indoors or outdoors. Some varieties are easy to find and grow, while others are more sought-after by collectors.

Alocasia is a genus of rhizomatous or tuberous, broad-leaved, perennial, flowering plants from the family Araceae. There are about 90 accepted species native to tropical and subtropical Asia and eastern Australia. Around the world, many growers widely cultivate a range of hybrids and cultivars as ornamentals.

8. Crotons

These plants have variegated, veiny, textured leaves with points in their shape. They can be striking additions to indoor arrangements, and artificial croton plants are available that don't require upkeep or concern about light levels.

Croton is an extensive plant genus in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. The plants of this genus were described and introduced to Europeans by Georg Eberhard Rumphius. The common names for this genus are rushfoil and croton, but the latter also refers to Codiaeum variegatum.
